THE WHISTLING GYPSY ROVER
Traditional Music & Lyrics
Arrangement: Heather Alexander
The whistling gypsy's come over the hill,
Down by the river so shady-
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang,
'Cause he'd won the heart of a lady!
HOW-DI-DO, HOW-DI-DO-DA-DAY
HOW-DI-DO, HOW-DI-DAY!
HE WHISTLED AND HE SANG
'TIL THE GREEN WOODS RANG
'CAUSE HE'D WON THE HEART OF A LADY!
She left her home by the castle gate,
She left her own true lover-
She left her servants and her estate,
To follow the gypsy rover-
Her father saddled up his fastest steed,
Rode through the valley all over-
Sought his daughter at greatest speed,
And followed the gypsy rover-
At last he came to a castle, fine,
Down by the river Claydie-
And there was music and there was wine,
For the gypsy and his lady-
"He is no gypsy, my father" says she,
"But Lord of these valleys all over!
And I will stay 'til my dying day,
With my whistling gypsy rover!"

Alexander James Adams's Balance of Nature is a wonderful album. The songs are wonderful, musically and lyrically, and He of the Sidhe is an incredible example of it. Nearly all the songs are about transitions of some sort, or about moving forward, and they are all worth listening to.
Thanks for putting out such a wonderful album. Kamani

Alexander James Adams is one of my all time favorite musicians; his music has seen me through both dark times and fair. His musicianship is excellent, a master Bard, songwriter, and fiddler.
Cannot recommend his work enough; his music is exceptional! gaycelt

Natalie Mering's latest is woozy, hallucinatory folk that swirls and swoons, working with shadow and light, hope and loss. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 10, 2016

Fav tracks, more like. Storyteller and Close Your Eyes. When things are darkest, I think of these songs, the tiny spark to keep things lit. I know that sounds campy, but it's true. Heather's and now Alex's music help with my clinical anxiety and depression, and I need all I can get. Lia Graf
